friday fix: stupid sponge caddy

please don't unsubscribe. at least let me explain.

a long time ago i posted this tutorial on our other blog. i knew it was dumb. but at the same time, projects like this, almost always attempted after a beer (or two), when i start looking around my house with hungry eyes, desperately searching for something, anything, that needs fixing/painting/hanging/________ , are bizarrely satisfying to me.

and now, i'm out of town, staying in a guest cottage, on a thursday night, with nothing to fix. so really i have no choice but to repost. you understand.

here it is, in all it's original glory. feel free to laugh, but please refrain from mockery in the comments. god help me.

i don't even know why i'm blogging this. it's that dumb.

spray paint a knife holder from the old dishwasher. not sure why we still had it. it was inside-the-dishwasher-gray.
install cup hooks. i used a piece of balsa wood, also painted white, threaded through the hooks to make a bar that the knife thing hangs from.
sponge caddy.
i'm sorry. it's so stupid i'm embarassed. i'm gonna go now.

this post is dedicated to lauren's mom, sharon paradise. because she was the first to tell me it was stupid. no wait, i was the first. but she seconded that emotion.

happy weekend, and please make something cooler than this.

xoxo, c.

by the way, i'm rooting basil from those little plastic grocery store cuttings in the background...it works surprisingly well with sage too! just snip off the dead end and stick it in water til a root comes out. buy a poultry mix and you've got a whole variety of plants for 2.50! hooray!

this project makes me laugh more than anything! it's not that it's stupid...just kind of unnecessary.

i think 'sponge caddy' should become our slang for any useless craft project fueled by alcohol and boredom.

'hey, what did you do this weekend.'
'oh nothing. i didn't have much happening, i just stayed home and made some sponge caddies.'

Doesn't everyone have a sponge caddy? If not, Kelly and Olive will make you one...in your favorite color too!

It's the best sponge caddy ever. :)

hey, i'm not hating...in fact, if i had a sponge caddy i might not have to search for my dirty, nasty sponges under a pile of gross dishes.

Ha! I wouldn't have thought this was stupid until you mentioned it's excessive stupidness. Now it's just funny! Speaking of sage...I have heaps and heaps of it overtaking my outdoor pots of herbs. It's totally bullying the other plants! I suppose I could try freezing--think that would work?

Can I be boring here? I think the initial idea is great - I hate sponges that float around the sink area, forever absorbing more water and never drying properly. Maybe the dishwasher thingy isn't the most stylish solution I've seen... but you can just say that "this was a test, I'm making a really cool one soon".

This post made me laugh! And I was wondering...if you don't mind, what template do you use? Thanks!

ha ha! you guys are the best! and you're right about the dishwasher thingy...any ideas for what might be cuter?

i'm intrigued by frozen sage...but i think i would make it into a sort of pesto first...otherwise it will probably just turn black and then you won't want to use it. that's happened to me with other herbs.

I don't hate the sponge caddy idea! Mine just sit in coffee cups on the counter.

Thanks for writing about the herb thing. I wouldn't have thought to do that... maybe because I have a black thumb. I'll give this a try though. My problem is that I don't remember to water plants... but if they're sitting in water it *should* be pretty obvious when it needs to be refilled. After all, I keep my dog's bowl filled... however... not so good with fish tanks keeping fish tanks filled but let's keep that between you and me...
